John (a man of more words)

What is your favourite beer?

My own of course! Seriously, that’s a hard one - depends on my mood or time of year. I love IPA all year round, and lighter Pilsners and APAs in the warmer months. I do enjoy a good Porter and Stout (something that’ll hold a spoon upright) in the winter!

What is your role(s) at Tinker Tailor?

Sales, operations, brewer and general dogsbody.  Sometimes I clean the floors too!

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

A lion. I think “king of the jungle” would suit me just fine thank you very much.

What do you want to do when you grow up?

Train driver! Kidding. Master brewer of course! I also have always fancied sales as I am very much a people person and can talk the flukes off a Kaikoura humpback!

What is your all time favourite inspirational quote?

“Run like you stole something”. As a keen mountain and trail runner, this has served me well.

What is the last book that you read? Recommend it?

I love science fiction. I just read the Expanse series of six books on my Kindle. I’d certainly recommend to sci-fi lovers.

Best childhood memory?

Scout Jamboree 1984

You have 30 minutes spare time – what do you do?

Go for a run.

What is your favourite form of exercise/physical activity?

You guessed it - it would have to be mountain running. Somewhere way off the beaten track. I love the endorphin rush and the serenity of being one with the bush.

Most amazing meal you’ve had recently?

Spicy fried rice and tuna with lots of chilli sauce. I eat this most lunchtimes and have for years. And I still look forward to it every day!

How spicy do you like your food and why?

Spice level = lava. I grew up in England at a time where eating super-hot curry was an Olympic sport. I could have represented India! Since then my taste for hot and spicy has never waned. I grow my own Yellow Scorpion chillies clocking in at 1.3 million Scoville units! Perhaps a chilli beer is in order?

Erica (she writes the words)

What are your roles at Tinker Tailor?

Well the sexy ones are marketing, social media, and resident foodie. I also have responsibility for the slightly less glamourous sounding, but equally important, portfolio of compliance.  I am otherwise known as the Queen of Bureaucracy!

Tell us about your career prior to Tinker Tailor.

I’ve spent most of my career working in central and local government. Hence my familiarity with paperwork, dealing with officials, and consenting of all types. And now I’ve finally found an outlet for my creative side – I get to be a real live blogger!

If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

I’d love to be a giraffe – tall, elegant, with smoking eyelashes and a fabulously long neck. Accessorised with a distinctive coat, but able to blend in when necessary!

If we are sitting here in a year’s time celebrating what a great year its been what would you have achieved?

Spotting someone (who is not a family member or friend) wearing a Tinker Tailor t-shirt and drinking a Tinker Tailor beer.

What is your favourite coloured M and M?

Purple. Is there even a purple one? No? Well there should be. Okay then, orange.

What is the last book that you read? Recommend it?

I read a lot of non-fiction. I read a lot of books that include inspirational quotes, and other such “woo-woo”. But the best novel I’ve read lately has to be Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth.

Best childhood memory?

Long summer holidays at Little Manly Beach, sitting on the swing seat with my Nana while she crocheted hand-made blankets and drank the odd shandy.

If you could travel anywhere where would it be and why?

Italy. For the food, the hilltop towns, and just to listen to Italian being spoken all day.

How do you spend your Sunday afternoons?

I’m very fond of an afternoon nap. Preferably in the sun. With a cat.

What is your favourite form of exercise?

Hiking. I love, love, love walking. Wellington is a great place to live with hills, the Town Belt, and the Botanic Gardens all right on my doorstep.

Most amazing meal you’ve had recently?

Vietnamese style lemongrass and chilli chicken with rice. Asian foods are my all time favourites.

I’m also partial to very dark chocolate, but I guess that’s not really a “meal” is it? Oh, go on, it could be you know…
